July the 4th is not only famous for American independence day, but we also chose this day to start the life of our dreams and O’boy did we choose the right day.
Fifty-two years ago, on the 4th of July 1970, we both left our parent’s homes to make our way in life, never to return, full of hopes, dreams, wants and needs.
Dreams suddenly replaced the number one spot with needs; the fantasy of winning the £25.000.00 jackpot premium prize with only £6 was just a fantasy
In that 52 years, we have had an exciting roller-coaster ride surrounding our living accommodation.
I put this down in part to my ADHD, part to adventure and part curiosity, plus our needs, wants, and most of all to our determination to prove that there’s no such word in the dictionary as can’t.
We have had 18 homes, including one 10 ft caravan, four bungalows, five houses, plus three houses abroad (part-time homes), then there are the four houses we bought to live in but changed our minds, or rather one of us did (and yes, Marilyn was right)
And, of course, our office that we lived in through the recession that we called home, among other names for 2.5 years.
The longest stay was 26 years in a fabulous house, and the shortest was six months.
Over the years, we have bought and built homes in different countries because we thought it would be nice to live up a mountain in the heat then another in the snow; then I realized that I’m not too fond of the heat or the cold even though we had them for 12 years.
We wanted a place looking over the sea, so we built that and tried to live in the sun, but there are only so many G&T’s one can consume.
