Consistency compounds in ways talent never can. Today I am reflecting to show people the magic of simple compounding lived for 50+ years:
We all want big results now.
We all want the breakthrough now.
We all want the moment where everything changes to be today.
But here’s the truth most people never understand: Your life doesn’t change in the big moments. It changes in the small ones of repeated consistently.
Everyone in business can put their finger on a few pivotal points when their minds have changed, they went in a different direction, or someone gave them an idea that changed their business but for most of the time consistency is the quiet engine behind every success story.
You can make it glamorous.
You can make it dramatic.
You can make it Instagram worthy.
And you can make it unstoppable, so it becomes unbeatable.
The Day I Learned the Power of Consistency.
When Marilyn and I started out, we didn’t have a master plan apart from putting food on the table every day.
The only strategy we had was to become more valuable to customers.
But it felt like we didn’t have a clue of how to do it.
All we had was consistency.
We showed up.
Every day.
Even when we were tired.
Even when we were scared.
Even when we had no idea if it would work.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but those early days were teaching me the most important lesson of my life:
Consistency compounds.
In business.
In relationships.
In health.
In mindset.
In everything.
Consistency beats Intensity in the long run but you do need both to succeed in large doses.
Most people only rely on intensity.
They sprint.
They burn bright.
They push hard for a week… then collapse.
Intensity feels good.
It feels productive.
It feels powerful.
But it doesn’t last.
Consistency, on the other hand, is slow and steady unexciting. But it builds something intensity never can: Momentum.
And once momentum kicks in, everything becomes easier.
A Story from the Kiddicare Years. When we were growing Kiddicare, people used to ask:
“How do you build such a big business?”
“What is the secret?”
“What was the breakthrough moment?”
They expected a dramatic story like a lucky break. When all the lucky breaks were in the mindset of wanting to achieve goals.
But the truth was far simpler:
By improving methods every day, introducing new lines to sell and questing everything. There was no single moment that changed everything but there were thousands of tiny moments that compounded into something extraordinary.
That’s the compound effect of consistency.
What Consistency looks like, treating work like it’s a game to win.
People think consistency means perfection. It doesn’t but never let perfection leave your brain.
Consistency means:
- Doing the work even when you don’t feel like it.
- Improving one small thing each day.
- Showing up when motivation disappears.
- Keeping promises to yourself.
- Choosing progress over excuses.
- Building habits that outlast your moods.
Consistency is not about being brilliant.
It’s about being reliable especially to yourself.
The Hidden Power of Compounding.
Here’s what most people miss:
Consistency doesn’t just add up it multiplies.
One good decision makes the next one easier.
One good habit strengthens another.
One small improvement creates space for the next.
Before you know it, the gap between who you were and who you’ve become is enormous.
That’s why people call long term success “luck.”
They didn’t see the compounding.
They only saw the result.
A challenge for this week.
Forget perfection.
Forget intensity.
Forget trying to change everything at once.
Choose one action you can repeat every day for the next seven days.
Just one.
Then commit to it consistently.
Because when you combine:
- Self competition
- The 1% Rule
- And daily consistency
…you become unstoppable.
Not overnight.
Not instantly.
But inevitably.
Consistency compounds.
