By the age of 24 (1974), I had 18 jobs. Up to that time in the 60’s and 70’s, anyone could leave a job in the morning and get another in the afternoon. But that all ended abruptly when a recession hit the UK.

After living on welfare for three months in 1974, I started a window cleaning business; within three weeks, I found a way to succeed in business, and that was not to carry on cleaning windows because there was a ceiling to what I could earn, even if I were to work 24/7, I would never become rich and at that time that was one of my goals in life.

I didn’t stop the window cleaning business immediately; I started doing ancillary jobs that paid better and gradually stopped the cleaning as the other better-paying jobs took over, and this was the format that could make anyone successful.

The business changed daily, although it wasn’t apparent to the general public as they saw it improving in massive leaps every few years. However, behind the scenes, things change in a microform every hour.

So you don’t have to stick rigidly to something you don’t like or want, but you have to be very consistent with your method to get you where you would like to be.
