When will people wake up to the fact that there ain’t, and never has been and never will, be a ‘free lunch!’
I hear you say, well, I’ve had plenty, yes, and so have I, for that matter, but that’s not what I am getting at.
You see, a free lunch is a metaphor for getting something more than you bargained for; this goes much deeper than that. Take the jab, for instance, my giddy aunt; I try so hard to avoid this subject, but I also feel so passionate about protecting people, which wins the argument with myself about not talking about it.
Most people I know took it because they wanted to go on holiday ‘a free lunch’ and carry on as usual.
The others I know who took it were scared that they hadn’t looked after their immune system well enough in the past to protect them, so a ‘free lunch’ so they could carry on in their usual manner.
Or maybe they were just scared and never thought about their immune system.
The business people who got a 10k handout a few days after being shut down thought they had a ‘free lunch’, and it kept them silent and off the streets, not protesting that they were losing their businesses.
The councils paid millions out in just a few days, whereas they can take up to two years to get a rates problem sorted; this makes me think the payouts were organised years before all this happened.
Anyway, I digress; back to the free lunch. The free lunch comes in many disguises, so the next time you have to make any decision to accept something that seems too good to be true.
