Rules of life

It’s never really concerned or bothered me about other people’s rules of life up until the last couple of years when I found myself, for no good reason, under house arrest alongside billions of other law-abiding citizens. I started with nothing but a dream of being free from bullies, escaping into a world off the beaten track where I could look after myself and the family I would have someday.

In 1974 finding myself on welfare begging for an extra £2 a week to feed my wife and three-year-old daughter, I made a promise to myself that I would earn enough money to pay a million pounds in tax every year so people like myself would never be rejected when asking for money just to survive.

Fortunately, I was strong, or stupid enough to reject the system and fend for myself, although the goal of paying a million pounds in tax every year never went away.

Recently I found it incredibly biased when the house arrest came; people with ltd companies that pay19% tax were getting 10k – 25k handouts, yet I, who is paying 45% tax, as a self-employed trader, got nothing, so what incentive will I have in the future to work? Although after three days of sitting about, I returned to work knowing that a business would not run without a competent leader, a lot like a Government, really.

Now to some of my rules for life

Work every minute you are given (1440 minutes in a day)

Create a niche in your market (that others don’t understand)

Under promise yet over-deliver (that’s how to get raving fans)

Know something others don’t (how it feels to be in your customer’s shoes)

Enjoy what you are doing (you have nothing else to enjoy, or you would be doing it)

Be 100% committed (anything below 100% is not worth doing)

Attitude = Altitude (the choice is yours)

Never Never, Never let anyone know how hard you are working (it’s easy)
