I feel this message beautifully captures the essence of embracing life’s inevitable challenges and transforming ourselves through them. It reminds me that personal growth often stems from some of the most challenging times in our lives. 2024 has been a year of challenges for us, and even after a lifetime, you would think we would be prepared for any change.

We spent years building and growing in a fast-moving retail environment where every day brought change and challenges; we used a phrase that we made up, which was, if things have been calm for the last 48 hours, look up as we are just coming out, or we are just about to go into a crisis, and for those 32 years we were right.

Handling the winters of life will always have its difficult phases, especially when they appear at the wrong time, in the spring, only to stay through the summer and on to the autumn.

We all know what the seasons are for. Spring is a season of new life, starting businesses and for adventures; summer is learning, having more adventures and growing businesses; autumn is for adventurers, harvesting and selling businesses; and winter! What’s winter all about? Who knows, apart from more adventures and preparation for the next generation to carry on?

However, it’s crucial to learn how to navigate those difficulties, like winters, that follow periods of fun, adventures, progress, and ease.

Embracing change instead of wishing for easier times, focus on becoming stronger, wiser, and better. Personal growth is the result of overcoming challenges, not avoiding them.

Developing skills and wisdom rather than wishing for fewer problems, I aspire to create more skills and gain more insight, as each challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Resilience in the face of disappointment is the key to striving to become stronger and better equipped for future challenges.

These lessons remind us that we have the power to shape our responses to life’s inevitable difficulties.

It’s about becoming the best version of ourselves in the face of adversity. I love the saying, Accept the things you cannot change, change the things you can and have the wisdom to know the difference.

I have never been able to accept the things I cannot change.
